services
Jim’s children are finally grown and sort of out of the house. With a little extra time on his hands (and that tad bit of wisdom that comes with two decades of parenting, pastoring, and praying), he is enjoying sharing time and energy with the church and world at large through conference/retreat leadership and individual and group spiritual direction.

Conference & Retreat Leadership
Jim has spoken in churches, convention halls, corporate boardrooms, college chapels, and retreat centers. Listed below are just a few of the topics and themes he’s been asked to address. Choose one of the following or feel free to request a theme better suited to your particular context.

All Cracked Up
A provocative and broadening look at God’s grace as presented in the death of Moses, the baptism of Jesus, and the baptismal text of First Peter.
Meeting God Again
If God is truly infinite and unfathomable, why is it we rarely learn or experience anything new relative to God? This series of sermons reintroduces the seasoned Christian to the God of their faith. Exploring oft neglected biblical images of God and breathing new life into overly familiar images, the listener joyfully meets God again.
Loving Leviticus: What Every Christian Needs to Know About the Heart of the Torah
For many Christians, comments regarding homosexuality are the only verses worthy of attention in the Book of Leviticus. Jim opens our eyes to the oft overlooked threads of freedom, forgiveness, and rest which permeate the book.
Jonah: What the Faithful(?) Need to Learn from the Unfaithful(?) about Spirituality.
We’ve too long assumed that ‘the faithful’ are the purveyors of all truth; ‘the world’ is no more than a melting pot of evil. Jim (and the Book of Jonah) turn this assumption upside down and assert ‘the world’ has much to teach the faithful about spirituality.
Choosing Generosity over Stewardship
A sermon (or series of sermons) that will create a healthier attitude toward giving - and hopefully healthier offerings – in your church.
Journeys Adjoined: Biblical Affirmations for Multiple Paths to God
Whether confined to the Book of Genesis, or extended into an overview of the complete Bible, Jim’s guided study helps us understand and appreciate the pluralistic society in which we live. In fact, he helps us discover God at work in people and places we might never have imagined.
Ruth: The Challenge and Blessing of Change
For both the corporate and the congregational context, this study offers insight into our individual responses to, struggles with, and embrace of change.
Exodus: Imagining and Implementing
Exploring the Book of Exodus as a model for long range planning in your church or organization.
Any Text(s) or Topic of Your Choice
Because Jim thrives on learning and discovery, feel free to suggest studies or themes that you believe will benefit your church, retreat group or business. (Available corporate sessions address: leadership, relationships, rest, creativity, physical fitness, and more.)

Individual & Group Spiritual Direction
Jim has practiced and shared the ministry of spiritual direction for two decades. He works with groups and individuals as they learn and practice spiritual disciplines in an attempt to improve their conscious contact with God and God’s will for their lives. Individuals and groups may schedule weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly appointments. This scheduled time of conversation, meditation, and prayer is a perfect way for any workplace to start their day or spend a lunch hour. It is also an invaluable conduit of spiritual growth for any individual – regardless of their faith…or lack thereof.
